The Latin America Down Under Conference, recently held in Perth on 17-18 May 2016 outlined the many opportunities and potential across the Latin American region which offers large orebodies, strong government and mining and represents attractive investment opportunities to Australia. Countries such as Cuba are only beginning to open doors to foreign investments, behind other world leaders. This months Australia’s Paydirt May article, “Back into the fold” explores an interview with CSA Global’s, Principal Consultant-Nickel, Mick Elias who spoke of the potential across nickel and cobalt production in the lateritic deposits in Cuba’s East, and highlighted some of the issues facing the region.

Mick Elias, Principal Geologist – Nickel

Mick is an expert in all aspects of nickel resource assessment and development in both laterites and sulphides. He has 35 years’ experience in the nickel industry conducting project generation and evaluation, exploration planning and management, development studies, open cut and underground mine geology, resource/reserve estimation, and resource economics. He has worked on the technical and financial evaluation of many nickel deposits throughout Australia and his international experience includes Cuba, Indonesia, Philippines, New Caledonia, Canada and Brazil.
