Managing Director Jeff Elliott of CSA Global will present on global exploration trends at the CHINA MINING Congress and Expo on the 22nd – 25th September 2016 at the Tianjin Meijiang Convention & Exhibition Centre in China.
Abstract:
The mining industry has been well known for its booms and busts, due to cyclicity in commodity prices and volatility in equity markets. The state of the market has always had a direct correlation to the amount of investment in exploration and this in turn has had a direct impact on the levels of exploration activity and funding for research and innovation.
Over the past decade the ups and downs in the mining industry’s sentiment has resembled a rollercoaster ride and the sector has experienced the “boom of a life-time” with a huge increase in exploration activity, particularly in bulk commodities, only to have it shut down in late 2008 by the onset of the “global financial crisis” and an ensuing few years in an investor wasteland.
By 2010, the stimulus-led recovery kick-started exploration activity, but this was short-lived and was followed by another period where the industry was in the doldrums. But here we are in 2016 and the winds of change are blowing again. Global economic uncertainty has created an environment of strong demand for physical gold and concerns over global warming are fuelling surging interest in greener forms of energy and more efficient batteries.
Jeff will provide a high-level overview of trends in global exploration in terms of investor interest and resultant activity by region and commodity. He will illustrate some of his recent observations on other trends and drivers affecting the mineral exploration sector, such as technology, government policy and changes in societal expectations.
CHINA MINING is one of the largest mineral exploration and mining trading platforms playing a valuable role in creating communication and co-operation opportunities globally. CHINA MINING will cover the whole mining industry chain across geological survey, exploration and development, mineral rights trade, mining investment and financing, smelting and processing, technology and equipment, mining services and other aspects. It provides the platform for mineral exploration, development and trading, but also the communication bridge for domestic and international mining companies and related agencies.
