CSA Global to present on Lithium Exploration Success at RIU Explorers Conference 2023

Published on January 10th, 2023

CSA Global is proud to be sponsoring and presenting at this year’s RIU Explorers Conference between 14-16 February, 2023 at the Esplanade Hotel, Fremantle, Western Australia.

Associate Partner, Ian Stockton will present at 8.30am on Thursday 16 February on “Important Considerations to Improve Your Lithium Exploration Success”.

The RIU Explorers Conference is one of the Australia’s major forums for the junior resources sector and has grown over the years to be a full three day event.  It continues to attract an overwhelming response from the junior and mid cap resources industry, keen to communicate their latest exploration and production successes along with updates on their technical and corporate performances.

Abstract

Exploration for Lithium has dramatically increased in recent years with the inexorable move to electrification and demand for Li-ion batteries. Unlike other “battery metals”, Lithium currently has limited recycled resources in comparison to copper nor can you divert existing production from mines, such as nickel, manganese and copper. Existing Lithium production is limited to a few mines that previously produced speciality metals, and therefore Lithium production needs to catch up to current demand. The resultant exploration boom for LCT pegmatites is different to other commodity booms because the exploration models and knowledge base are relatively new to the broader industry, as is the historical exploration data they draw upon.  Therefore, the learning curve for the geologist in the field is steeper, which is exciting. Still, time is of the essence to understand whether your pegmatite is a discovery or barren to allow you to move to the next Lithium project in your portfolio in the most efficient way possible. This presentation looks at the critical considerations for the lithium explorer based on CSA Global’s experience.

Presenter

Ian Stockton
Ian Stockton
Associate Partner

Ian Stockton is an Associate Partner with CSA Global (an ERM Group company) and a geologist with more than 25 years’ experience in the mineral exploration industry. Ian has been managing the geoscience team in Perth across early-stage exploration activities, exploration management and drilling programs for clients globally. He has worked extensively in Australia, Indonesia, Philippines, Serbia, Suriname, New Zealand helping to manage and leads projects across lithium, gold, copper, nickel, cobalt and other commodities.

Meet Our Team

Graham Jeffress, Manager – Corporate
Graham Jeffress
Partner, Operations Director (Australia)

Graham is a geologist with over 30 years’ experience in exploration geology and management in Australia, PNG, and Indonesia. He has worked in exploration (ranging from grassroots reconnaissance through to brownfields, near-mine, and resource definition), project evaluation and mining in a variety of geological terrains, commodities, and mineralisation styles within Australia and internationally. He is competent in multidisciplinary exploration, and proficient at undertaking prospect evaluation and all phases of exploration. Graham has completed numerous independent technical reports (IGR, CPR, QPR) and valuations of mineral assets. Graham capitalised on his knowledge of exploration to undertake expert technical reviews, valuations, and independent reporting services to groups desiring improved understanding of the value, risks, and opportunities associated with mineral investment opportunities.

Howard Simpson
Howard Simpson
Mining Manager, Consulting Director

Howard is an experienced mining professional who has undertaken the delivery of mining engineering, mine planning and economic evaluation for projects, technical studies and operations. He has delivered projects and studies across multiple geographies and commodities, with responsibilities for design, planning, scheduling of mine operations, and economic evaluation. Howard has had a particular focus on innovation throughout his career focusing upon technology solutions, integrated mining systems such as in-pit crushing and conveying, new and alternative mining methodologies. With significant project management and operational experience, Howard has worked across numerous commodities including gold, copper, phosphate, ilmenite, zircon, rutile, iron ore, manganese, chromite, nickel and coal. He has extensive international experience, having worked on projects in Australia, Brazil, South Africa, United Kingdom, Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Saudi Arabia. Howard is a competent person in terms of the JORC Code for coal and mineral sands.

Peter Neumayr
Dr Peter Neumayr
Principal Consultant, Exploration Geologist

Peter is a highly motivated exploration geologist with experience ranging from the discovery of mineral deposits to the integration of geological, geochemical, and geophysical data sets. He has a passion for interpreting the integrated data sets to generate robust exploration targets using the mineral systems concept. He is skilled in testing these exploration targets and improving the targeting strategy based on drill results leading to discovery across Australia, Uganda, Rwanda, Canada, Austria, and Egypt. Peter’s field experience includes planning and supervision of drill programs and geological and geotechnical logging and designing and implementation of geochemical and geophysical programs. He currently delivers the one day program

Ralph Porter
Principal Geologist

Ralph is a geologist with over 40 years of mineral exploration experience. He is experienced in target generation, project evaluation and exploration program implementation for lithium, tantalum, gold, nickel and PGMs.  He has a strong understanding of many deposit styles with strength in orogenic gold, epithermal gold and porphyry copper-gold systems and pegmatite hosted lithium and tantalum. He is credited with the discovery of the Pajingo epithermal gold deposits, North Queensland, Australia and was involved in the early exploration and discovery phases of Thunder Bay North PGM-Ni-Cu deposit, Ontario, Canada.

Max Nind
Max Nind
Principal Consultant, Geology

Max is an enthusiastic geologist with 30 years of experience in the resources and financial sector in exploration; mining and corporate management. He has extensive knowledge of exploration targeting; mine resource delineation; resource development studies; regional exploration and management; business development; project evaluations; and management of economic studies. Max has led multi-disciplinary studies and exploration teams globally working extensively across Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the USA.
