    Ivy Chen to form part of panel at Dassault Systèmes GEOVIA User Conference 2018

    CSA Global’s Principal Consultant, Ivy Chen will form part of this year’s panel of mining industry experts on ‘Sustainable Mining” at the Dassault Systèmes GEOVIA User Conference on Thursday 31 May 2018.

    This one‐day event will be held in the basement of the CORE Innovation Hub at FLUX in Western Australia for a day of workshops, interactive discussions and presentations, with an aim of improving existing mining workflows and exploring best practices through technology.

    Participants will have an opportunity to immerse themselves in a Virtual Reality Underground Mine experience, which allows them to touch and move objects within the mine to simulate real activity.

    The Dassault Systèmes GEOVIA User Conference will comprise of two panels:  The Future of Mining and Sustainable Mining.

    Future of Mining

    • What does the mine of the future look like as a whole, compared to today’s mine?
    • Is our industry ready for the change and how are mining companies preparing for this?
    • Are there some aspects of mining that need to stay “manual”?
    • We have vast amounts of information available but how can we truly leverage this to drive productivity improvements?
    • Collaboration across silos – what is needed to change?


    Sustainable Mining

    • Social Responsibility – What drives shared value with the communities in which we operate? What are some successful examples of mining companies operating within local communities?
    • Environmental Responsibility – What needs to change in our legislation, mine rehabilitation processes and supply chain?
    • How can technology drive sustainability?
    • What does a lasting approach to sustainability look like?

    Ivy Chen – Principal Consultant
    BAppSc (Geology), MAusIMM, GAICD

    Ivy is a corporate governance specialist, with 30 years’ experience in mining and resource estimation. Ivy’s experience in the mining industry in Australia and China, as an operations and consulting geologist includes open pit and underground mines for gold, manganese and chromite. Recently, she has been involved in assessments of risks and impacts of corporate social engagement in mineral projects. Ivy served as the national geology and mining adviser for ASIC for 6 years, where she supervised the reviews of risk disclosure in public statements by mineral and energy companies. She is a member of the VALMIN Committee, AusIMM, and the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
