TORONTO, CANADA – FEBRUARY 8, 2021 – CSA Global (an ERM Group company) and the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) are excited to announce the 2021 Joan Bath and Peter Howe Bursary Award winners.

The awards announced for the third time at the PDAC 2021 Convention recognize geoscientists and mining engineers in their quest to advance the economic aspects of the mineral industry in Canada through research.

CSA Global Partner-Americas, Dr Neal Reynolds stated: “We are delighted to congratulate Tia Shapka-Fels and Darius Kamal, recipients of the 2021 Joan Bath and Peter Howe Bursary Awards. We were very impressed with the quality of their work to date and with the potential for their research to deliver outstanding contributions to industry, in very different but important fields, as it comes to fruition. We look forward to meeting them on Thursday March 11, 2021 when we will chat live at the PDAC 2021 Virtual Convention 2021.”

The Student Bursary Award Program was launched in 2018 in collaboration with PDAC to assist geoscientists and mining engineers to undertake further study in the areas of economic geology or mining.

The awards honour, Joan Bath, a highly respected mining engineer from CSA Global in Perth, Western Australia. Joan was the first woman to graduate as Mining Engineer in Australia and has embodied excellence and achievement in the mining industry over four decades.

The late Peter Howe was a geologist and mining engineer and an icon of the Canadian mining sector. Peter was a global leader in exploration consulting, and the founder of ACA Howe International (acquired by CSA Global in 2016) and was responsible for several important mine discoveries globally.

“PDAC congratulates Tia Shapka-Fels, recipient of the 2021 Joan Bath Bursary, for her research into the Investigation of concurrent surface and underground mining through the use of hybrid continuum-discontinuum models and Darius Kamal, the 2021 Peter Howe Bursary recipient, for his research on The Geometry and Kinematic History of Cordilleran Deformation on the Howard’s Pass Shale-Hosted Massive Sulfide Deposit,” says PDAC President, Felix Lee.

“We commend them on this this impressive achievement and wish them continued success. We look forward to their ongoing contribution to the mineral exploration and mining industry.”

CSA Global will exhibit alongside its parent company, ERM at the PDAC 2021 Convention in Toronto, Canada from March 8-11, 2021. Visit our website for information on activities scheduled.
