This year’s theme: Evolution of African Mining: Investing in the Energy Transition, ESG and Economies will explore how Africa, and more particularly mining, investors, and society – can thrive amid the decarbonisation, social, technological, and economic (‘the sociotechnomic and decarbonisation dispensation’) that prevail across the continent.

Galen White
Partner – Growth & Delivery (EMEA)
Galen is a geologist and a partner with more than 25 years’ experience in the international exploration and mining industry, of which the last 15 years have been spent in consulting. Galen assists our clients with specialism in managing technical project execution and delivery, enhancing delivery of CSA Global and ERM integrated technical and sustainability consulting and assisting and supporting clients meet their technical and strategic goals. Galen holds a Bachelor of Geology from the University of Portsmouth, United Kingdom and is a Fellow of the AusIMM and the Geological Society of London.
Sifiso Siwela
Manager – Africa
Sifiso is a geologist with 17 years’ experience in evaluation of mineral projects globally. His expertise includes exploration strategy design, exploration management, geological modelling, Mineral Resource estimation, Competent Persons reporting, technical reviews, and mineral asset valuation. Sifiso has global mineral project experience, particularly in Africa and the Middle East, and is a Competent/Qualified Person for various commodities and deposit styles according to respective reporting codes. He possesses management consulting experience focussing on digitalisation strategy, as well as business design and growth strategy in the minerals industry. Sifiso is a Fellow and Past President of the Geological Society of South Africa and Vice-Chair of the SAMCODES Standards Committee. He holds a Graduate Diploma in Engineering (GDE) focusing on Mineral Resource Evaluation and Geostatistics.
Michael Cronwright
Principal Consultant-Battery Metals
Michael is a geologist possessing more than 20 years’ experience in exploration and geology throughout Africa and parts of the Middle East. He is a well-rounded exploration professional with significant commodity experience including lithium, tin, base metals, gold, coal and tungsten. He holds a broad view of the battery metals space, including an appreciation of its downstream components. Michael has gained significant experience across pegmatite hosted columbo-tantalite, tin and lithium mineralisation, and vein hosted mineralisation styles. He is a qualified Competent Person/Qualified Person across many international reporting codes. Michael has lectured in the Master of Science program at Rhodes University on the topic of exploration geochemistry and pegmatites and is a member of the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions, and a fellow of the Geological Society of South Africa.
Anton Geldenhuys
Principal Resource Consultant
Anton Geldenhuys is an experienced mineral resource specialist with more than 18 years’ experience. He possesses broad commodity experience including precious metals, vanadium, lithium, rare-earth elements, graphite, tin, potash, base metals and iron ore. He has extensive expertise in the governance of exploration projects and has worked on a myriad of projects throughout Africa, India, South America and Europe. He is a member of the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions, the Geological Society of South Africa and, since 2005, the Geostatistical Association of Southern African. Since 2009, Anton has volunteered in multiple committee roles for the Geostatistical Association of Southern Africa and has lectured to University groups; most recently to the Exploration Geology, Master of Science course at Rhodes University on the topic of Mineral Resource Estimation.
Maria Combrink
Senior Data Geologist
Maria Combrink is a Data Geologist with over 10 years’ experience in various data management software solutions and systems with skills that include assay laboratory auditing for gold sampling and assaying, reviewing and creating QAQC and sampling programmes and data governance. Her experience in data management and visualisation encompasses a broad range of data types; including geological, geotechnical, hydrogeological, biodiversity, CRM systems and palaeontological data management. Maria has worked in South Africa, Burkina Faso, Swaziland and Botswana; and is a member of both the Geological Society of South Africa (GSSA) and The South African Compliance Institute as well as a committee member of Women in Mining South Africa (WiMSA).
