Abstract
Creative approaches are increasingly adopted to minimise uncertainty around traditional exploration targeting and ranking of exploration projects where large data sets are required to be organised, analysed and prioritised. Traditional methods can absorb a considerable amount of time with companies investing in methods that are outdated, costly and time consuming. The Davyhurst Gold Project located approximately 120 km north west of Kalgoorlie, in the Eastern Goldfields in Western Australia challenged CSA Global to undertake a ranking and prioritisation for over 275 exploration targets utilising expansive historical exploration data on over 1200 square kms of tenure. Utilising open-source libraries within Python, CSA Global employed a creative approach to integrate operational, conceptual and empirical features for each exploration target. This included consideration of the classification of the targets within a typical risk-value framework, a mineral systems approach to conceptualise gold prospectivity and evaluation of the historical exploration work on the target. Each target was assigned values of the features, which were compiled into a prioritised, target pipeline.

Shane is an expert geologist with more than 20 years’ experience in the mineral exploration industry ranging from early-stage exploration activities through to project evaluation and deposit modelling. His expertise includes 3D modelling, structural evaluation, and mineral systems analysis to assist targeting at all stages of the exploration process from early stage to resource level projects. His experience includes significant Western Australian deposit knowledge, with international expertise spanning across Ghana, India, China, Bulgaria and Finland. Shane was recently involved in analyzing the prospectivity of Western Australia to inform State and Local Governments in relation to land-use planning. Through this diverse experience, he can provide integrated, mineral systems based geological models and targeting advice.
